I studied at the Universidad Central de Venezuela and at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. I was a DAAD student there and got my PhD in 2000. Since then I have been working in the area of natural language processing and software development. I love combining statistical and ruled-based approaches to natural language processing. One of the endeavours I like the most is having to work on on algorithms that make different data sets interact as seamlessly as possible. That goes for natural language processing, semantic engineering and software development in general.
Outside my work, I read from fiction to neurology to history, draw and practice mountaineering. I not only enjoy getting involved in activities in the one AI, but also, when I have a little bit of time, in the other AI.
